MONTZ, LOUISIANA – (January 31, 2017) Entergy Louisiana, LLC has selected two Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) M501GAC gas turbines for its 980 megawatt St. Charles Power Station. When it opens in 2019, the plant will generate enough energy to satisfy customer needs and help fuel economic growth in the region.

Located in St. Charles Parish, about 30 miles west of New Orleans, the combined-cycle power plant will be one of the cleanest and most efficient units in Entergy Louisiana’s generation fleet.  The high efficiency natural gas-fired plant will be digitally-enabled to optimize power plant performance.

There is a change in power occurring, as the power generation industry embraces advanced-class gas turbine technology over less efficient technology. The contract for Entergy Louisiana, LLC is for the purchase of two M501GAC gas turbines. MHPS has more advanced class gas turbines operating around the globe than the next two competitors combined.  These include the G-Series and J-Series gas turbines. The two turbines that will be installed at the St. Charles Power Station are air-cooled versions of the MHPS G-Series.

"This is an important project for the economy of Louisiana and we want to thank Entergy Louisiana for their trust in MHPS,” said Paul Browning, President and CEO of MHPS Americas. “The St. Charles Power Station is truly a power plant of the future that will deliver cleaner, more reliable and affordable power for decades to come.  There is a change in power underway in our industry, and we're proud to be leading that “revolution.”
